CLARION UNVEILS ECO-FRIENDLY FLATBED PRINTER
April 2009
Clarion Printed Products has unveiled the EFI Vutek QS2000, a cutting-edge flat bed printer which enables the company to offer extraordinarily high quality, eco-friendly, flat substrate print solutions.

The new technology enables Clarion to print directly onto flat substrates of up to 50mm thick including durable substances such as wood, glass, perspex, polystyrene, tiles and many more. It can also print roll to roll onto a range of different substrates such as vinyl and wallpaper for use in the visual graphics market.
Exciting features of the Vutek are its ability to print onto bio-degradable substrates such as Xanita and its use of environmentally-sensitive QS Series 2 Ink. The QS Series 2 Ink has been tested in Clarion's in-house laboratory across a range of different substrates.
These environmentally-friendly solutions are in line with Clarion's ongoing aspiration to increase its "green" status.

"We have made a R14 million investment into digital technology in recent years," said Clarion MD Blake Currie. "Our latest addition, the Vutek, completes our range of digital print services and means we can provide the best quality, environmentally responsible, specialist printing with the addition of providing our clients with unique and value-added products and services."
The Vutek QS2000 produces four-or six-colour imaging with white ink. In addition, it can print on a wide variety of flexible and rigid substrates at speeds of up to 70 square meters an hour, offering a variety of cost and time saving elements.

"Now we can meet demanding delivery deadlines by fully utilising the 2 meter machine bed width to ensure maximum usage of print space and to avoid substrate waste," said Clarion's technical director Wayne Lotz.
The Vutek printer is a thoroughly researched product that was supplied to Clarion by Antalis, the largest distributor of communications support materials in South Africa, with an excellent reputable back-up service.
"In today's competitive digital product market, it is essential for specialist print companies like us to offer versatility and functionality," said Currie. "Our unique mix of products and our focus and investment into research and development, means we can maintain our reputation as a leading printing supplier in South Africa."
Clarion's portfolio includes global and local brands such as British American Tobacco, BP, Sasol, Caltex, Triumph International, Woolworths, Levis, Tiger Brands, Pioneer Foods, Old Mutual, and Adidas.
